The US Commerce Department has levied a 93.5% anti-dumping tariff on anode active materials imported from China, sending shares of non-Chinese graphite producers soaring. Australian miner Syrah Resources surged 22%, while Canada's Nouveau Monde Graphite jumped 26%. Novonix and South Korea's Posco Future M also saw significant gains.

The MOVE responds to allegations by American producers that Chinese firms benefit from state subsidies, allowing them to sell graphite at unfairly low prices. With existing tariffs, the effective rate could reach 160%. Ben Lyons of Jarden called it a "positive development," signaling US intent to foster non-Chinese supply chains for critical materials.

The tariff announcement coincides with Beijing's new restrictions on exporting technologies for advanced lithium-ion battery production, further tightening the global supply chain for battery materials.
